TFS Instructor Hired as New Assistant Coach at UT-Chattanooga - Thursday, August 26, 2010

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Names New Assistant Coach

August 26, 2010—Lee Dobbins, an instructor with The Fastpitch School (TFS) has recently been named as an assistant coach at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he will be working primarily with pitchers and catchers, and also assisting with the hitters.

Previously, Dobbins has worked with the Lady Mocs as a volunteer assistant in 2005, returning to UTC in 2007 as the director of softball operations.

Dobbins served as an assistant coach at Austin Peay during 2009-10, and served as the head coach at Texas A&M International University in 2008, as well as Lander University in 2006.

In addition to collegiate coaching, Dobbins has served as the head coach of the 2006 Athletes International Goodwill Team, as well as having been a video consultant in 2002 for the Spanish National Softball Team at the National Training Facility in Barcelona. Dobbins has also served as a director and instructor at numerous high-level camps throughout the Southeastern United States.

Off the field, Dobbins, a native of Chattanooga, is an instructor for The Fastpitch School (TFS), and has also been a sales consultant for the WhipHit Bat.

When asked about his new opportunity at UTC, Coach Dobbins replied "I am very excited to be back in Chattanooga and back with a successful program and head coach like UTC and Coach Reed. Chattanooga softball has been one of the Gold Standards of DI softball in how they play on the field and how they conduct themselves off of it. And I am thrilled to be a part of what is going to be a big future for the program.”

“I am also excited to retain my relationship with TFS and the great people in it. I hope to still help in the improvement and instruction of softball not only in the United States but around the world".

Play ball!

When the Chinese softball team bats at the International Softball Federation's 12th Women's World Championship in Venezuela this summer it will have a recognizable fan at hand. The team's former coach, Michael Bastian is flying to Caracas for the 10-day competition to offer encouragement to a team he prepared for the Beijing Olympics.

Bastian, who first came to China in 2003 as a coach on the US team, reckons China stands a good chance at the games, which start on June 23. His encouragement will be vital given his old charge will be up against top seeds Japan and the US. But the Chinese women are well placed, partly due to their coaching by Bastian, who revolutionized the ball methods of a Chinese side known for discipline but lacking creative thinking.
